West Ham United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur - Reaction
Brian Jeeves reporting from the London Stadium
SLAVEN BILIC was delighted that his ’game plan’ after his West Ham United side produced arguably their best performance of the season to see off bitter London rivals by a goal to nil at the London Stadium.
Manuel Lanzini’s second half strike ensured West Ham the points, and indeed their Premier League status, as well as almost certainly putting pay to Tottenham’s title hopes in the process. Speaking after the game, Bilic said: "We deserved to win, we did everything ok, we had a game plan and had a good pattern.
"It may sound strange, but the game we lost 3-2 at White Hart Lane in early November, we wanted to repeat it because we were really good in that game. Very unlucky not to win it there.
The Croat continued: "You have a game plan in every game. It looks good on paper, but the way we done it was magnificent. It was a great team display in terms of character, determination, thinking about what each individual had to do.
"But to beat a team like Spurs, you need more than that and we showed also quality, especially in the second half. Maybe we deserved to score another goal to be fair. But it’s a great performance, especially when you do it in such an important game for them and for us.
"Friday night., lights, sixty-thousand and against them. You can’t beat that feeling. The players deserve an enormous amount of praise for their performance."
Meanwhile, frustrated Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino, said: "I’m calm. Disappointed of course because we missed an opportunity to reduce the gap with Chelsea. Yes, I’m a little disappointed, it wasn’t our best day.
"The performance was just ok. From then perhaps we don’t deserve to lose, but we lose because we concede a goal and it was so difficult to try to come back from it"
