Dodgy drain finally fixed

THANKS: Resident John Gill celebrates after the noisy drain is finally fixed by the council Picture by Mark Cleveland
A DODGY drain has been repaired after months of complaints from neighbours.
Residents in Ashingdon Road, Rochford, have been driven to despair for more than two months by the repeated rattle of a loose drain every time a car goes along the busy road.
The offending drain has now been fixed despite council claims that it was ‘not a priority’.
It comes after the Yellow Advertiser reported last month that resident John Gill, 66, had repeatedly called Essex County Council to complain about the drain for eight weeks.
He said: “The drain goes clunk, clunk every time a car goes over it and it is just driving everyone up the wall! I am fed up of ringing to complain but still nothing gets done.”
A county council spokesman said when quizzed at the time by the YA: “We are aware of the issues highlighted by the resident and this has been included as a part of our ongoing highways maintenance programme.
“Our present priority is to focus our resources on keeping the highways moving during the current adverse weather conditions.”
But Mr Gill returned from an Easter break last week to find the drain has been repaired.
He said: “I’d like to thank the Yellow Advertiser for helping put pressure on the council to take action otherwise we would still be having to put up with the awful clunk, clunk!”
Mr Gill does however remain concerned that the drains in Ashingdon Road are not being clean regularly and that a number of potholes in his street have still not been repaired.
