Students take to the stand in competition
Friday, 13 April 2012
COMPETITION: Abaira Siddiq and Corey Williams at the Old Bailey.
STUDENTS from Leyton Sixth Form College demonstrated their skills as young barristers in the finals of the Bar National Mock Trial competition recently.
Having won the London regional event, the Leyton team competed with 15 other schools and colleges from around the country at the Old Bailey.
Although they did not manage to win the coveted trophy, the four budding lawyers -Abaira Siddiq, Corey Williams, Richard Makore and Lawrence Amadi - performed extremely well, impressing the assessors who included a number of high court judges.
Head of law and team organiser, Judith Wilson, was delighted with how her charges performed. She said: “The standards of the competition are very high and the students put hours of preparation into the event. They did the college and themselves proud.”
The competiton was run by the Law Society.
