Literacy champions recognised in project
Friday, 15 June 2012
HELP AT HAND: Volunteer Mehnaz Akhtar with Victoria Maliszewska and her mother Sylwia Dabrowska.
LITERACY champions from across the capital have been recognised by the Mayor of London at City Hall.
The National Literacy Trust project, which is funded by the Mayor of London, aims to help a third of London children that struggle with literacy.
In the last year more than 450 volunteers have become Literacy Champions to show parents how they can support their children’s development.
The scheme supports parents over a course of five weeks, encouraging them to share books with their children and introducing them to fun learning activities.
