AWARD: General director Jed Pattinson, chief executive Dave Geer and Warren James.

A BED and furniture-making firm has won its third Observer Ethical Award.
Warren Evans collected the honour, which recognises the country’s best ethically-minded products, people and organisations, and is voted for by members of the public.
The company has been handcrafting beds from FSC certified wood for more than 30 years. All their beds and furniture are handcrafted in the unique green workshop in Walthamstow, using energy efficient tools and the best environmental practice.
Warren said: “We are ecstatic to have won a third Observer Ethical Award – and want to say a huge thank you to all those who voted for us.
“Sustainability has been at the heart of everything we do from the very start, and I’m beyond proud of everything the company has achieved.”
Some of the firm’s green credentials include:
n a workshop heated by a biomass boiler than burns waste wood and sawdust.
n an ‘intelligent’ wood-cutting machine to minimise waste.
n a fleet of delivery vans run on locally made biodiesel made from 100 per cent used cooking oil.
n beds are delivered wrapped in blankets to cut down on excess packaging.
This is the company’s 12th award, but Warren is not done yet.
“We are always striving to be the best we can be, and forever looking for ways to minimise our effect on the environment and give back to the communities in which we work,” he added.
