Hospital staff get fit for Olympics
Friday, 29 June 2012
FIT: Hospital staff get fit.
WHIPPS Cross Hospital has achieved gold standard for efforts to make staff healthier in time for the London Games.
The top accolade was awarded as part of the so-called NHS 2012 Challenge by sending workers on pamper days and to Zumba classes.
Charmaine Yankey, staff benefits advisor, said: “This is absolutely fantastic for Whipps Cross and we are extremely proud to have achieved the highest award.
“We have worked really hard over the past two years to improve our programme for staff by holding listening events and online surveys to find out what people want and then introducing new classes.”
As well as regular classes such as boxercise and boot camp, staff took part in special pamper days to help make them feel valued.
The gold award means Whipps Cross will be included in regional and national NHS publications with the chance to be nominated for a national award.
The Gold Standard certificate and award will be presented to Whipps Cross by Sir David Nicholson, NHS chief executive, and Jonathan Edwards at a special event on Wednesday, July 9.
