JAILED: Abdul Jamal.

JAILED: Abdul Jamal.

A MAN has been jailed for more than two years after being convicted of a robbery and two thefts in the Leytonstone area.
Abdul Jamal, 31, of Lonsdale Road, was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday.
Jamal approached three teenagers in Leytonstone High Road in late October last year and told them they would be attacked by his friends if they did not hand over their mobile phones.
He convinced a 16-year-old and two 14-year-olds to hand over their phones on two occasions in November.
Jamal was arrested on Tuesday, November 15, for the first theft after the victim saw him on Leytonstone High Road and called police.
Following a police investigation, he was successfully linked to the second theft and arrested and later charged.
Detective Inspector David Spencer from Waltham Forest CID said: “Jamal used convincing stories and threats to make young victims hand over their mobile phones. I hope this sentence demonstrates that if you choose this path, we will pursue you relentlessly and work to bring you to justice.”
