Collective saving money
Wednesday, 03 April 2013
COMMUNITY Energy Club, the oil buying club run by Cornish charity Community Energy Plus, has expanded its services to welcome new members from Devon.
The club is free to join, with members able to take advantage of hassle free online booking and additional benefits such as no credit/debit card levies and boiler servicing offers.
With approximately 25,000 properties off the gas grid across Devon, households, communities and businesses are all being invited to join to ensure they only pay a fair price for their oil.
Jacqui Piper, development officer for the Community Energy Club, said: “Moving into Devon was a natural decision for us. We wanted to extend the club to allow the large number of households who are off the gas network in Devon to benefit from the savings available through the club. The joint buying power of both Cornwall and Devon will be very strong, allowing us to put more pressure on suppliers to offer their best possible prices.’
The club, which has almost 2,000 members in Cornwall, has purchased more than a million litres of oil since its conception in November 2011. It was developed in response to rising oil prices and the effect this was having on the 22,000 Cornish homes that rely on oil for heating. The club has achieved £30,000 worth of savings in 18 months.
