ONE of the borough’s cultural highlights has been launched.

The Leytonstone Arts Trail began at the weekend and showcases some of the best talent in the south of the borough.

There are more than 30 different exhibitions for locals to enjoy and it is all free.

The event, which runs until July 19, comprises of exhibitions, arts and crafts fairs, talks and workshops and is the work of more than 100 artists.

Flash Bristow (pictured), a member of the organising committee and exhibitor, said she was excited about the event.

She said: “So many people have put so much effort into making the event possible for people to enjoy.

“We are determined to show that the people of Leytonstone have talent and want as many people as possible to enjoy what’s on offer.”

As part of the ‘Fill Leytonstone with Art’ project, organisers are encouraging residents to get involved by creating their own pictures and etchings and placing them in the front windows of their homes.

The arts trail has also led to the revival of an iconic building in the high street.

The former Woolworths store has been opened as an art gallery and is hosting a ‘pick and mix’ exhibition, showcasing a range of artworks by different artists.
